Make A Donation

Year-end deadlines

As December approaches, you may want to take advantage of a charitable tax receipt at the end of the calendar year, but wait until the New Year to decide which charities to support.

You may do this through your permanent fund or through a pass-through grant that flows directly to your chosen charities.

Donations by credit card may be made on-line via our website until December 31 or phoned into the office at 250.381.5532 until noon on December 23. Donations by cheque must be post-marked by December 31, 2016. Our mailing address is #200 – 703 Broughton Street, Victoria BC V8W 1E2.

Please note: gifts of publicly listed securities received after December 5, 2016 will be receipted as of the day they are received in the Victoria Foundation's account. However, the grants to chosen charities may be delayed until January 2017.

The Victoria Foundation office will be closed from 12:00 pm on December 23 until 8:30 am on January 3, 2017.


The Victoria Foundation welcomes donations of any amount directly or online through our portal at CanadaHelps.

By phone

Call 250.381.5532 to make a donation by credit card directly via the Victoria Foundation.

By cheque

Send cheques to the Victoria Foundation at #200 - 703 Broughton Street, Victoria, BC, V8W 1E2. Please ensure they are made out to the Victoria Foundation. Note the designated fund in the memo line or in a cover letter.

With publicly listed securities

Please note: gifts of publicly listed securities received after December 5, 2016 will be receipted as of the day they are received in the Victoria Foundation's account. However, the grants to chosen charities may be delayed until January 2017.

Complete the Donation Form for Gifts of Securities and send a copy to your broker and to the Victoria Foundation. We will look after the rest. Please note: this form is updated annually, so please download a fresh one for each gift of securities.

Online

Make an online donation by visiting our page on the CanadaHelps portal.

You may designate your gift to any of our funds, including our leadership funds, by selecting from the pull-down menu or by writing in the “message/instructions” box. All donations over $3 will immediately receive a taxable receipt.

CanadaHelps is a registered charity and public foundation on a mission to make giving simple. Through CanadaHelps.org, anyone can donate online to any registered Canadian charity. The Victoria Foundation may receive one-time donations or monthly donations through CanadaHelps.org. 

CanadaHelps assesses a 3.5% transaction fee on each donation. This amount is deducted before the donation is sent to the Victoria Foundation. This 3.5 per cent covers all credit card merchant fees, transaction fees, banking costs, receipting, reconciliation and disbursement.

  • CanadaHelps offers options to donate now or monthly.

  • You may pay with VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Interac or through a PayPal account.

  • After you pay for your gift, CanadaHelps.org will send you an online receipt.

  • There are several privacy permissions available: if you choose to include your name and address in the information that is sent to the Victoria Foundation, we will be pleased to let your designated organization know that a contribution has been made to their fund.

Tax Benefits of Giving

Charitable donations are eligible for tax credits which can offset income taxes payable in the year of the gift. Any unused credits may be carried forward for five years. To learn more, check here for Canada Revenue Agency’s information. Plus, you can calculate the benefits for your own gift using the online donation tax credit calculator.

For donations made after March 20, 2013, qualifying first time donors may receive an additional federal tax credit of 25% on the first $1,000 of monetary donations, over and above the amounts provided in the first calculation. For details, go to First-Time Donor's Super Credit.
