1% For The Planet
Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) formally partnered with 1% For The Planet in the fall of 2006 in an effort to engage local businesses in environmental philanthropy. An alliance of businesses, 1% For The Planet is committed to leveraging its resources to create a healthier planet. The alliance aims to show that taking environmental responsibility is good for business, as proven by Yvon Chouinard, environmental activist and founder of 1% For The Planet and Patagonia outdoor wear.
Members of 1% For The Planet recognize their responsibility to, and dependence on, a healthy environment by donating at least 1% of their revenues or sales annually to environmental organizations worldwide. The partnership between community foundations and 1% For The Planet is unique because it gives businesses an innovative and highly visible way to positively impact the environment now, and into the future, through donations to a local foundation's environmental endowment fund and/or to charitable groups working in the area of the environment.
The Victoria Foundation is one of 158 community foundations across Canada committed to actively promoting 1% For The Planet.
